GD Environmental, Wales’ leading indigenous waste management company has taken the use of waste to a whole new level by supporting production companies, Studiocanal and Urban Myth Films, in the making of a new War of the Worlds contemporary drama.
Utilising 49,000 sq ft of space at one of GD Environmental’s warehouses in Newport, as well as tonnes of waste, including steel to make sets, filming is underway and is based on the timeless story by H.G.Wells. The new multi-faceted series is set in present-day Europe and has been written and created by the BAFTA award winner, Howard Overman.
Commenting on its involvement, GD Environmental, Managing Director, Oliver Hazell said: “It’s not every day you get approached and asked to support such an interesting and important creative endeavour. We are more than happy to get involved and it’s certainly the most creative use we’ve ever had for our waste. We are very used to recycling and turning waste into fuel via our biomass capabilities but using it as a film prop is a new one.
